Waking up early has its rewards. Woke up to this odd orangey-glow and the very loud mockingbird on its perch across the alley, that bird has some serious vocal capabilities. Today dove edged its way in for a moment, but its gentler song was still drowned out and soon mockingbird was back at it from it’s very own amphitheater 📢📢📢🐦‍⬛

I always wonder; what does this morning’s cloud formation and colors foretell? It’s an odd but beautiful sight. 🌫️☁️🌥️🌤️

I remember this wedding order so well. It was 2020. A micro-small wedding in a beautiful place in one of our national parks. Mom of the groom contacted me and asked if I was available for their date. Yes I was. I was more than happy to have a small pickup wedding that year.

Now comes an interesting part. The sweet woman I spoke to about this wedding day told me that a local florist refused to provide service for this wedding. They refused because the couple was a same-sex couple. My heart sank to the pit of my stomach for this family. I wholeheartedly said yes and made it extra special for them. Extra special because NO ONE should be refused service because of who they LOVE 💜 Personal flowers for two moms, two dads and two people who love each other.
Please know that if you’re a member of the LGBTQI Community, Fleurie is a safe space for you.

All these colors came together in my garden at just the right moment ✨ I’m not sure even what to call the color palette- warm and comfortable, and yet vibrant. A little bit wild. I picked what I thought would look just right together, and like kismet these two arrangements were created 🤌🏼
It also takes the right person calling at the right time, I just knew these colors would be perfect for Liz’s orders 🤍 thank you 🤍

Random pretties blooming now, and the reality of g

Random pretties blooming now, and the reality of growing flowers for sale- waste, also called shrink in the business world. It kills me to prune the good flowers off, but if I don’t, they stop producing. Pretty color of larkspur, but it’s only about a foot tall. I will leave these in the ground to set seed and they’ll self-sow for next season.

That feeling you get when your advance copy comes in the mail 🥹 Being asked to be part of this beautiful cookbook, written and photographed by @lori_rice was so exciting for me! I believe that flowers add that special touch to the table; and that the flowers should be as special as the carefully grown and prepared foods that are served. It doesn’t have to be extravagant, it just needs to come from the heart 🫶🏼
I cannot wait to choose the first recipe to make!

Maybe those elusive northern lights?? The clouds weren’t visible, and the amber color didn’t show until I took a pic. Pics were taken about 9 pm tonight, it was fully dark outside

I was thrilled to get to deliver this to a woman from her husband for their 50th anniversary! What I make is from the heart; I’m honored when it touches someone’s heart in the way it did for the recipient of this glorious arrangement.

Anniversaries are a special thing, remember them and celebrate them 🥂 cheers to many more years

The sweetest colors of garden roses, sweetpeas, feverfew and caramel phlox for @blondeandbluephoto’s Friday popup. One lucky winner got the @stanley_brand blush cupfrom @blondeandbluephoto and an arrangement of flowers from me! The little basket was a prop for the photos. Peep stories for the beautiful backdrop!
Such a cute idea, I’d be up for putting flowers in one of these beauties again!

A special arrangement ordered by a customer in Texas! She said she found me on @yelp and loved my style. This was for a ‘thank you for your kindness” sent to someone in Reedley. All grown in the Fleurie garden. Various types of @david_austin_roses, foxgloves, bells of Ireland, a few ranunculus tucked in, dianthus, sweet peas, and we can’t miss those huge green goddess calla lilies!

The roses and scented geraniums smelled divine! Although it’s difficult to get the scale of this, the vase itself was about 11” tall, and a couple of the green goddess calla lilies had ba bloom that was about 8” long.

🌎 Each year, Earth Day organizers assign a theme for the year’s activism efforts. This year’s theme is “Planet vs. Plastics.”

♻️Not many flowers or anything else goes to waste here at Fleurie headquarters. I re-use whatever I can, and avoid buying more ‘stuff’ and new items whenever I can,choosing to use what I have or buying second-hand. Any packing materials I receive get saved and used many times, for packing flowers for delivery and items I ship out. Cardboard goes on walkways between rows to reduce the weed population and help retain moisture in our sandy soil. Vases that clients return get reused. I make special note of the company when I get a package that is padded with recycled materials- and use that over again. The flats, pots and containers I use to start seedlings and plants all get used until they completely wear out

🌸 These flowers from the Fleurie garden, went un-sold, so they get made into bouquets for placing on our loved ones graves, delivered to a nurse’s station or to someone that just needs a flower pick-me up

Will the things I do to reduce waste help?

Today is the anniversary of my dear mom’s birthd

Today is the anniversary of my dear mom’s birthday, she would have been 97 this year. She’s my reason I embraced gardening and a love of flowers at a very young age. Her mother was also an avid gardener. I still remember the plants she grew and the layout of her garden- Grandma Olsen passed away when I was about 17. The love and appreciation of flowers is in my DNA 🧬 🌱🌸💚

Mom was a natural at horticulture therapy; working at a mental health facility for over 30 years, teaching horticulture, pottery, leathercraft, home economics, needlework and more.
The Margaret Hudson statue was a birthday gift from family and former co-workers and friends for her 80th birthday.
Sweet photo memories-
Mom at work shoveling compost, working in the Bearded Iris garden; her garden at her home, which I helped design in the mid-80’s.
She adored my girls, Lauren @damnedelion_ and Camille @camigarzaclark, and created special fun places in the garden just for them to play in.
Mom and her cousin in 1932 posing with Bearded Iris for their birthdays. I still have that vase, and place Iris that was from her garden in it every year. Bearded Iris blooming today- soon to be in that vase!
